The Impact Of FDI On The Total Factor Productivity Of Retail Industry In Guangxi

The retail industry is an important industry in the development of the national economy and one of the earliest industries to open to the outside world.The entry of foreign retail companies has changed the original competitive landscape,brought new management models,scientific concepts,and advanced information technologies.At the same time it has also caused a certain impact,stimulating the development and reform of the local retail industry.At present,our country's retail industry is in a period of transition.Guangxi is a frontier zone and an important gateway for China's open cooperation with ASEAN.Its development of retail industry cannot be ignored.It is worth studying the impact of FDI on the total factor productivity of Guangxi,and then to provide suggestions for the healthy development and utilization of foreign investment in the retail industry in Guangxi.It has important practical significance and theoretical research value.First of all,the related theories of foreign direct investment and retailing and domestic and foreign literature are sorted out,which provides theoretical support for the empirical research.Secondly,quantitative analysis is applied to analyze the development status of retail industry in Guangxi and the general situation of FDI inflow.Thirdly,we use the DEA-Malmquist productivity index method to calculate total factor productivity of retail enterprises in Guangxi from 2006 to 2016,and decompose it.So we can analyze the dynamic changes of the total factor productivity,technical efficiency and technological progress index.Then,this paper uses the DEAP2.1 software to measure the technical efficiency of domestic and foreign retail enterprises in 2016,in order to compare the difference of technical efficiency between domestic and foreign retailers at the same time point;according to relevant theories and domestic and foreign research,we explain the mechanism of FDI's role in total factor productivity of retail industry;and attempts to use Tobit regression to explore the impact of retail FDI participation on the total factor productivity changes in the retail industry in Guangxi.The study shows that the total factor productivity of retail industry in Guangxi has been increased from 2006 to 2016,mainly due to the improvement of technical efficiency;the technical efficiency value of Hong Kong,Macao and Taiwan investment enterprises is higher than that of foreign invested enterprises,and it is obviously higher than the average technical efficiency value of the domestic retail enterprises in Guangxi;FDI of the retail industry in Guangxi has a negative crowding-out effect on the total factor productivity of retail enterprises.Both the size of the retail business and capital intensity has a positive effect on the total factor productivity of retailers.In order to promote the healthy development of retail industry and make more rational use of foreign capital,this article believes that the government should optimize the investment environment in Guangxi,improve the relevant legal system of retail industry and strengthen the protection of industrial safety;local companies should establish their own brands,expand the scale of enterprises,and attach importance to rural retail markets and accelerate the development of e-commerce,establish long-term talent training mechanisms and scientific compensation incentives,and strengthen enterprise information construction and supply chain management.
