Since the reform and opening up,China's economy has experienced rapid growth. At the same time, the income gap between residents is increasing rapidly, and the issue of income inequality has received more and more attention, and gradually becomes the focus of the society. There are many researches on income inequality in economics.Previous scholars used the Gini coefficient,Theil coefficient and other indicators as the standard to measure the residents' income gap.In recent years, many scholars have begun to pay attention to the study of intergenerational income mobility. The equality of opportunity can be measured by this indicator.Intergenerational income mobility refers to the extent to which the income level of offspring is influenced by the parent's income level. The size of the intergenerational income mobility is usually measured by the intergenerational income elasticity. The high intergenerational income elasticity indicates that the intergenerational income mobility is weak.On the contrary,it shows that the income of generations is highly mobile.Through the study of the literature,I found that the predecessors have conducted extensive research around the measurement of intergenerational income elasticity coefficient and influencing factors. The previous literature has made outstanding contributions to the study of intergenerational income mobility, allowing people to understand the influence of parental income level on the income level of offspring from different perspectives. However, most of the predecessors are based on the income level of residents to test the intergenerational income mobility and cannot reflect the intergenerational mobility of residents' income classes. This paper focuseson intergenerational mobility of the income class to conduct in-depth analysis and research to more comprehensively reflect the issue of intergenerational incomeinequality and make a modest contribution to the research in this field. The dissertation has carried on the thorough meticulous combing to the predecessor's research, has provided the literature foundation for this thesis.Based on the intergenerational income elasticity model constructed by Becker and Tomes, this paper adopts the data of household income in the Chinese Health and Nutrition Examination(CHNS)database and uses quantile regression to empirically measure the intergenerational mobility of residents' income and income stratum.Further inspected its influencing factors. The empirical study found that the intergenerational income elasticity coefficient of residents in our country is 0.4514,which is much higher than the international average level. This shows that the income level of our children's children is largely determined by the parent's income level, that is,the intergenerational income in China. The liquidity is weak. The coefficient of elasticity of inter-generational income strata of residents in our country is 0.4499,which is also at a very high level. This shows that the income stratum of our children's generation also largely depends on the father's income stratum and has a weaker intergenerational income stratum mobility. The inter-generational income elasticity coefficient of residents and the elasticity coefficient of intergenerational income strata are both the lowest in the lowest 20%of the income class and the highest 20%in the income, and the middle class is relatively large. It shows that the intergenerational mobility of the income and income segments at the two ends of China's income is strong, and the intergenerational mobility of the middle income and income class is weak.Compared with the intergenerational income elasticity coefficient, the intergenerational income class elasticity coefficient is lower than the latter in the lowest 20%of the income class, and the former is greater than the latter in other classes. This shows that in addition to the lowest 20%of the income level, the income of the descendants of other generations in the sub-generational generation is greater than the absolute income level of the offspring due to the influence of the father. This may be due to the existence of a solidified income class and a weak liquidity. The study in this thesis shows that education, urban and rural household registration, and gender are important influencing factors for intergenerational income mobility and intergenerational income mobility.Based on this issue, the paper puts forward some policy suggestions, such as the rational allocation of educational resources and the gradual reform of the household registration system. |
