The transmission-array antenna and reflectarray antenna,with many advantages as light weight,planarization,low cost easy processing.etc,are widely used in scientific research and production as a high gain antenna.While the folded reflectarray antenna(FRA)inherits the advantages of the reflectarray antenna,it allows the great reduction of the antenna height and aperture blockage.The FRA has been concerned since it was put forward.Nowadays,lots of research still focused on the phase performance of the main reflector,and the research on the function and form of the subreflector is relatively less.The frequency selective surface(FSS)has the characteristics of low loss,polarization conversion and filtering,which can greatly improve the flexibility of the planar array antenna.This provides a new idea for the direction of transmission-array/reflectarray antenna research.This paper firstly introduced the working principle of FSS and transmissionarray/reflectarray antenna,and the common design methods and ideas are expounded respectively,which lays a foundation for the antennas design.Secondly,the characteristics of the aperture coupling FSS were researched.A wide-band FSS with polarization torsion was designed based on the E-shaped patch,and the 1d B transmission bandwidth reaches 30.5%.A wideband transmission array antenna was designed based on the unit-cell,with a 1-d B gain bandwidth of 17.4%.Thirdly,a wideband FRA operating in Ka-band wss proposed.The main reflectarry with multi-layer structure was consist of dimension conversion elements to realize phase compensation,polarization torsion and wide-band characteristics.Double-layer polarizing grid was employed for the transmission of single polarization to the subreflector.The measurement results show that the 3-d B gain bandwidth reaches 20% in the passband.Finally,a high-gain filtering antenna based on the folded reflectarray antenna have been proposed.The FSS with narrow-band characteristics was designed as the subreflector based on SIW technology,and the measured 3-d B gain bandwidth of the antenna is 8%.Comparing to the wideband FRA with the polarizing grid as its subreflector,good frequency selective characteristics of the proposed filtering antenna based on FRA has been achieved.
