With the continuous improvement of human living standards,people's demand for multimedia technology is also increasing.High dynamic range(HDR),a new generation of multimedia technology,is perfectly consistent to human visual system(HVS).So,it can bring people a great experience of multimedia.In recent years,the application of HDR has been widely applied,such as HD display,virtual reality,hologram and so on.Therefore,discussions and researches on HDR are exploded.HDR image and video greatly improve the human visual experience,but also bring great challenges to the transmission and storage of HDR content.In this paper,an HDR image compression algorithm is proposed.It solves the problem of high memory consumption and high transmission cost of HDR images.Visual saliency is the first concern of human vision when people are observing things.For an image,the most sensitive area of the human eye should be compressed as less as possible,so that the majority of original information is kept.This paper first analyzes the correlation between residual and visual saliency,and uses statistical methods to get the similarities and differences between them.At the same time,this paper also explains the reasons for the above distribution and how to use them to compress HDR images better.Then these statistics is fully applied to HDR image compression.By designing the adaptive mass migration function,the higher compression quality is given to the significant region,which makes the quality of salient region is the highest,while the quality of other regions decreases on non-salient region.The balance of the stream between the salient region and the non-salient region will effectively improve the overall quality of the image.This paper compares the proposed algorithm with the JPEG standard and the latest HDR image compression algorithm,thus proving the superiority of the proposed algorithm in the subjective and objective metrics.The development of HDR is the general trend and the inevitable result of economic development.Applying HDR image compression algorithm to many multimedia technologies will be a great leap forward,and will eventually benefit mankind.
