As the network scale expands and user application requirements change,new user-oriented services continue to increase,and new network architectures and network protocols are continuing to be tested and deployed.While meeting the needs of user applications,network security and network performance will also face enormous challenges.At this time,the flexible and high-performance Middlebox is crucial.Currently,Middlebox mostly exists as a separate device in the network and is distributed in the network topology.Analysis of the packet processing of these network functions,we found that they have many common functions,such as the classification of flow,the parsing of packet protocols,and so on.The implementation of these functions is usually more complicated,error-prone,and wastes manpower and material resources for repeated development of the same function.In order to solve such problems,this paper studies the software-hardware co-design reusable message event management system.The main work and innovations include:(1)In-depth research on the development model of Middlebox.Because it is difficult to develop Middlebox based on flow,so the event management of hardware-software co-design is proposed-COEM model for Middlebox development.For the events of the COEM model,it is proposed to implement the Middlebox application through events.For the reusability of code,the reuse of events as the basic unit is proposed.(2)Design and implement a reusable event management system for the proposed event management model for network middlebox platform,we introduced key technology such as system interface definition,core data structure,FPGA-based development and rule list sturcture and the way how to lookup a rule.(3)Implement the stateful firewall network function through the event management system,establish a test environment,and perform functional and performance tests on the implemented network functions.The functional test is mainly to test the implementation of the firewall network function.The performance test mainly includes packet processing delay and throughput.The amount of testing.The results show that the use of the event management system can easily realize the network function,and because of the hardware and software coordination,the CPU resource consumption is effectively reduced,and the processing speed of the message is improved.In summary,this paper proposes an event-based Middlebox development model for the problem of Middlebox redundancy development.It designs and implements a Software-Hardware Co-Design Reusable Event Management System for Flow Parsing.Using this system,it is more convenient and efficient to develop various applications.Middlebox research results have certain theoretical significance and practical value fordealing with complex and varied network applications,improving Middlebox development efficiency and improving message processing speed.
