The traditional pen input technology introduces pen pressure,pen tilt,pen azimuth as auxiliary input modalities,which is a common method to improve the efficiency of pen interaction.However,as the interactive interface gradually tends to be larger,the increasing distribution range of operation targets may lead to the increase of operation difficulty.In addition,the change of operation region also affects the users' ability to control the pen modalities,resulting in the false trigger of the operation commands and the unfair discretization of the value range of pen modalities,which reducing the interaction efficiency.In order to improve the efficiency of pen interaction,the use profile of pen modalities and the control ability of pen modalities in different regions were revealed firstly,and then the region-oriented multi-regions cooperative operation technology was proposed.At last,the region-oriented pen interaction technology was designed and realized.In the study of pen modalities use profile in different regions,three layout methods of operation regions were selected and the sliding operation task was designed,which in order to reveal the pen modalities use profile more fairly.It was found that the common value range of pen modalities in different regions was different.The mean pen pressure and the mean pen tilt decreased from the upper side to the lower side of the screen.The mean pen azimuth increased from the left region to the right region,while the mean pen tilt was opposite.In the study of pen modalities control ability in different regions,the experiment required to maintain the pen modalities value within the specified value range and the sliding operation would be performed within the specified operation region.Among the three layout methods,16 layout had the lowest out-of-path rate,cross-track-error rate and out-of-range rate,and the control ability changed with the operation region and the pen modalities subinterval.In order to make rational use of each operating region,the multi-regions cooperative operation technology was designed.The results showed that the four-regions combination technology had some advantages in speed,precision and accuracy.In order to further improve the pen interaction operation,the region-oriented pen interaction technology was designed,and the performance of four selected techniques was investigated.The results showed that the dynamic adjustment selected technique had the best performance.Finally,the design suggestions and application scenarios of the region-oriented pen interaction technology were given.The reference for the interface design of the region-oriented pen interaction technology is realized by utilizing the regional characteristics of the screen and the intrinsic characteristics of the pen.
