This era has witnessed the increasing popularity and importance of Location-Based Services(LBSs)accompanying by the rapid proliferation of smart mobile computing devices.While Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)can easily satisfy the localization needs for outdoor environments,yet the attenuated signal strength turns out to be disturbing in indoor circumstances.Due to the ubiquity of Access Point(AP),increasing attention has been attached to a more affordable method: Wi-Fi fingerprinting localization.Featured by the application of Received Signal Strength Indication(RSSI),it realizes the function of localization through comparing online measurements with a pre-built,location-tagged database.However,due to the complex indoor environment,the factors that affect the positioning accuracy can be various.Typical fingerprint localization methods fail to resist the environmental changes.Hence,this paper proposes researches on how to improve the accuracy of Wi-Fi fingerprinting localization.Our main work and innovation are demonstrated as follows:(1)Propose a comprehensive study on factors that affect the localization accuracy.Describe the relationship between influencing factors and localization performance systematically.These studies can provide references for designing Wi-Fi fingerprinting localization system and algorithm.(2)Design controlled experiments to evaluate the influences brought by an accidental environmental changes—AP movement.Experimental results can be used as a reference for the design of erroneous AP detecting algorithms.(3)Propose a three-step voting scheme-based decision mechanism to detect and filter out the moved APs.Experimental results show that this algorithm can effectively eliminate erroneous APs to maintain the positioning accuracy.(4)Propose an optimized MAximum Overlapping(MAO)algorithm to achieve localization accuracy and efficiency simultaneously.Experimental results show that this algorithm further enhance the positioning accuracy(10%).
