Recent years with the steady growth of the computer graphics,3D surface model will be used widely.The vector field on the surface play a important role in the related areas.Some application like mesh deformation are based on change vector field,and texture synthesis need generate vector field in advance.For high demand about vector field,there are more and more vector field generation algorithm created.In practical application,we need vector field on high genus surface can align geometry features,and generate singularities with natural position and less amount.Besides,we want the vector field as harmonic as possible,which can make it more regular.We focus on 4-RoSy field among various kinds of vector field.In this paper we present a novel 4-RoSy field generation algorithm based on the surface foliation.It can align geometry features and create less amount of singularities.First we compute a foliation on the mesh,cutting it to some blocks along cut locus,so that we can induce a reference direction field on each blocks.The reference direction field induced by surface foliation is smooth enough,and singularities would only be placed on the cut locus.Then we compute representation direction field based on reference direction field and boundary condition.Finally,we convert representation direction field to 4-RoSy field.Experiments show that our 4-RoSy fields on high genus models are smooth,geometry features aligned,and have singularities with well position.These can be used to generate quad mesh,texture synthesis,etc.
