Organic light emitting diode(OLED)has some great advantages, such as thin design, low power consumption, fast response, high contrast, flexibility, wide viewing angle and potential of low cost manufacturing, which make it a fast developing display technology in recent years.Because both of the top and bottom electrodes are usually high reflective metals, the optical characteristics of the top-emission OLED will be significantly changed when the length of the cavity between the two electrodes is in the same order of magnitude as that of the light emitting wavelength.Firstly,we used Matlab to simulate the micro-cavity effects of the top-emission OLED.And we found that the cavity length and the position of light emission zone have great influence on the spectrum and efficiency. Then we applied the simulation data to the device structure, and it was found that the experimental results were in good agreement with the simulation, which proved that the effect of micro cavity will affect the optical properties of the top-emission OLED.In addition, the thickness of the capping layer will affect the efficiency of the top-emission OLED as well. When the capping layer was 35 nm thick, the maximum efficiency was obtained on a blue top-emission OLED.
