With the rapid development of Internet technology, the size of data center and the amount of data in data centers have been increased rapidly, which results to the problems in traditional data center networks, including performance, cost, power consumption and complexity. The hybrid switching data center network is believed to be a promising solution, which combines the advantages of electrical packet switching and optical circuit switching and utilizes the characteristics of traffic in data centers. This thesis concentrates on the optical circuit switching part of hybrid switching data center networks. We propose an optical circuit switching model with port aggregation in data center networks. The system cost and performance are largely determined by the number of switching ports, under a given switching technology, which corresponding to the number of ports on the optical port aggregation module, including the ports at the rack side and the ports at the optical circuit switching module side.So this thesis mainly researches on the blocking probability of the system and the performance of optical port aggregation module by theoretical calculation and simulation. The main contents and results of this thesis are as follows. We propose an optical circuit switching model with port aggregation in data center networks firstly. We also introduce the assumptions in the system model in detail and illustrate the heuristic scheduling algorithm about data flows of the system model. Then we use Markov process to calculate the blocking probability of the system. The status of the ports on the optical port aggregation module represents the basic state of Markov process, and we get the blocking probability of the system by calculating the steady state probability. After comparing blocking probability results of Markov process and simulation,we find that the two kinds of results are really similar, which means Markov process can be used to estimate the blocking probability of the system. At last, this thesis researches on the effect of system parameters and data flows on the number of ports, under the constraint of the system blocking probability. Results show that the amount of data affects the number of ports on the port aggregation module at both sides heavily, while the distribution of data flow destinations among racks only affects the ports at the optical circuit switching module side. The results of this thesis are valuable for designing and implementing cost-effective optical circuit switching data center networks.
