The converged network of passive optical network(PON)and cloud radio access network(C-RAN)combines the advantages of optical and wireless network to provide large capacity,high reliability,low loss,low cost and flexible accessing for users,which has become one of the mainstream accessing solutions.However,with the rising demand of mobile network applications,efficient resource management strategy is very important to improve network performance.Therefore,the resource management problems of backhaul in C-RAN are emphatically focused.The main contents are as follows:1.The basic concepts of converged network are summarized and the research hotspots are introduced.Then,the necessity of the resource management strategy in converged network is explained,and the key issues and related research status of the resource management strategy in fronthaul/backhaul are emphatically expounded.2.An adaptive-weighted parallel genetic algorithm for the problem of downlink resource scheduling is proposed.According to the network demand of wireless users in hot spots,three optimization objectives including the number of used wavelengths,load balancing,and well-distribution of real-time traffic are considered in the optimization of adaptive-weighted parallel genetic algorithm.Thus,the wavelength resources are dynamically allocated and resource utilization is improved.The results demonstrate that the proposed downlink resource scheduling strategy can effectively improve the load balancing and resource utilization and reduce the waiting-transmitting delay of real-time traffic.3.A resource management strategy based optical network unit(ONU)tuning groups and quality of service(QoS)mapping mechanism is proposed.To deal with the issues that the cooperative data may be repeatedly transmitted in backhaul and the same backhaul may be shared by different operators,different operators are isolated by dividing the wavelengths into tuning ranges.Next,the tuning cost and load balancing are comprehensively considered in the multi-objective optimization of the proposed heuristic algorithm.Furthermore,the downlink packet scheduling is implemented by the QoS mapping mechanism.The results show that the proposed resource management strategy can maintain high resource utilization,reduce wavelength tuning cost,and improve the performance of latency and load balance.Above two resource management algorithms are presented,the former adaptively manages network resource based on the changes of wireless demand,the latter further completes the downlink resource management by considering the situation that some mobile operators coexist and QoS exists differences.Through the simulation analysis,proposed algorithms can obtain higher resource utilization.Finally,the research works are summarized and the outlook is presented.
