By deploying various types of small cells,it is possible to effectively address the need to cover holes and respond to surges in traffic. However, the characteristic of the dense small cell networks become extremely complicated, and many technologies need to be reconsidered. At the same time, the deployment of small cell base stations result in increasing of the extra energy consumption.Based on the concept of green communication, two resource allocation schemes are proposed to optimize the network energy efficiency. In order to solve the problem of high outage probability and unbalanced load in dense small cell networks, and taking into account the difference between the transmission power and the available traffic load of various base stations,a scheme based on energy efficiency by jointly optimizing cell association and base station on/off strategy is proposed. The network energy efficiency is maximized by jointly control load balancing and dynamic small cell on/off control strategy under users' minimum rate and maximum outage probability constraints. The optimization problem is NP-hard,therefore,this thesis decomposes the original optimization problem into two sub-optimization problems: Firstly, the load balancing strategy is optimized with given small cell on/off control strategy.Secondly, the dynamic small cell on/off control scheme is designed while achieving the minimum service requirement among users. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can improve the network energy efficiency while guaranteeing the network load balancing.Aiming at the problems of energy consumption and serious interference caused by dense deployment in small cell networks,a resource allocation scheme for maximizing the network energy efficiency is proposed. The network interference is reduced by the clustering of the cells and users. The network energy efficiency is improved by jointly optimizing sub-channel allocation and power allocation.Firstly, the neighborhood small cells are divided into small cell clusters.Secondly, the users in the cell cluster with small related interference are divided into user clusters. And then,sub-channel allocation is carried out to maximize the energy efficiency of the user cluster. Finally, the power allocation for maximizing network energy efficiency is carried out.The power optimization problem is a non-convex fractional problem, which could be transformed into an equal convex form and solved by an iterative algorithm based on energy efficiency optimization.Simulation results indicate that the proposed resource allocation algorithm could achieve significant improvement of the network energy efficiency.
