The Design And Implementation Of Cross-Layer System In Wireless Mesh Software Defined Network

Wireless Mesh Network(WMN)is a multi-hop and self-organized wireless broadband access network,which possesses strong robustness in a flexible structure and is easy for deployment.WMN is widely used in the field of emergency communication system and tactical communication network.Software Defined Network(SDN)is a new type of network architecture based on centralized control.SDN separates control plane from data plane and delegate the control function to a centralized controller,which provides programmability to system and simplifies the deployment of new protocols or new services.By combining WMN with SDN,Wireless Mesh Software Defined Network(wmSDN)enhances the flexibility and openness of WMN.This paper is based on the project "Cross-layer Optimization in wmSDN" conducted by our laboratory and a research institute.After introducing WMN,SDN,wireless tactical communication network and some related technologies,we analysis the development of wmSDN.We conduct a comprehensive investigation of cross-layer design in wmSDN.We analysis the method of obtaining information from different layer and building a cross-layer wmSDN system.Finally,we build the cross-layer wmSDN system which consists of OLSRd routing software,NETCONF software,OpenWRT system and Open vSwitch,and make some experiments to verify the effectiveness and robustness of this system.In this system we build,most data traffic will be forwarded following a path indicated by routing table,which is established by routing protocol,while some specific data will transmit through a path established by SDN controller and OpenFlow table.In addition,wmSDN enables the network system to revert to distributed WMN mode in case of controller's breakdown.
