In recent years, wireless network has become the necessary network architecture for information transmission in various industries and homes. At the same time, with the increase of network bandwidth, multimedia video service has become one of the main types of services transmitted over wireless network. Therefore, guaranteeing users'Quality of Experience(QoE)in wireless network video transmission has become an important topic in wireless network research.Firstly, this paper evaluates the effects of packet loss, temporal variation and transmission packet size on the quality of video streamed over a wireless local area network(WLAN)using single stimulus absolute category rating(ACR)technique of subjective assessment. The video transmission simulation in WLAN with packet loss characteristics is carried out using Linux-based NetEm platform. The processed video datasets from the simulation are rated by 20 naive observers, and the rating results are analyzed using Mean Opinion Score(MOS)method. The results show that for the three different temporal variation videos, there is difference in packet loss threshold percentage PLTP before the packet loss artifact could be noticed by the observers.Secondly, based on the packet loss threshold percentage(PLTP)obtained from the experiment,a selective retransmission algorithm is proposed, which can be integrated into the error recovery system of the client computer to reduce delay and improve the bandwidth efficiency of the packet-lossy network. The main contribution of this paper also includes advancing researchers'knowledge on the effect of transmission packet size and temporal variation on user QoE,this knowledge can provide a reference for the design of channel coding algorithm for future video streaming in WLAN.
