A typical moire magnifier,is an optical imaging device consisting of a display layer with periodic structure and a substrate layer with periodic structure.Through this device,the stereoscopic,dynamic and enlarged moire pattern can be observed.In this paper,the moire magnifier with microlens array as display layer and microimage array as substrate layer are introduced.And the static and dynamic imaging features of the moire magnifier are deeply analyzed and discussed.These imaging features make the moire magnifier widely used in the fields of anti-counterfeiting,attitude estimation,sensor and so on.Two types of methods have been developed to design and analyze moire magnifier:integrated imaging methods and moire methods.The integrated imaging method is based on the integrated imaging principle of the microlens array,and it can analyze various moire imaging features,but it's computationally complex that can not reflect the periodic structural characteristics of the moire magnifier.Therefore,for the imaging analysis of the moire magnifier,it's more to adopt the relatively simple moire methods such as geometric transformation method.However,these moire methods stop on the analysis of the first-order moire and 2D-plane transformation.Related researchers don't further develop the method of the analysis of moire imaging features such as the moire depth feature and the high-order moire display feature.In this paper,a improved design and analysis method for moire magnifier based on depth cues from disparity and moire imaging principle of superposition-amplification is proposed.By using this method,the imaging features such as amplification,rotation,jumping change of moire pattern can be analyzed,and the morie depth and high-order moire features of moire imaging can be analyzed,too.It's important for a comprehensive understanding of the imaging features of the moire magnifier.Based on the developed moire method in this paper,a variety of moire magnifiers are designed and fabricated.Moreover,the analysis of moire imaging on simulation and experiment is carried out.Based on 3 typical moire magnifier of the microimage array relative to microlens array with two periods consistent and inconsistent,the simulating and experimental analysis of moire imaging is carried out.The results fully show the amplification and dynamic moire features.The simulating results of moire depth show that our proposed method can analyze the moire depth and the dynamic change of the depth.Moreover,it's easy to design the moire magnifier according to moire depth.The simulation and experimental results of high-order moire imaging show that the unit magnification of moire imaging is independent of the moire order,and the period magnification of the mth-order moire is 1/m of the period magnification the first-order moire.Furthermore,the moire imaging can be seen a process of composition and amplification not just a process of simple amplification.These results fully embody the regular moire features of moire imaging such as the moire amplification,the moire depth,the dynamic moire feature and the composition-amplification effect of high-order moire.That verified the rationality and validity of our moire method.
