Research On Silhouette Photo Style Transfer

Silhouette photography is a kind of attractive visual art,which makes the photo more mysterious and imaginative.However,silhouette photography highly depends on the shooting equipment,weather,lighting conditions and skills,it is hard for ordinary users to take satisfactory silhouette photos.Image style transfer is a kind of computer technology that renders the content image taken by the user according to the style of the specified reference image.It can help people obtain high-quality artworks easily.There are many transfer methods for different styles,but the style transfer method specifically for silhouette photos has not been proposed until now.Therefore,this paper proposes a photorealistic style transfer approach that can generate realistic silhouette images.It relates to two technical fields:sky segmentation and image appearance transfer.The main contributions of this paper are summarized as follows:(1)The backgrounds of most silhouette photos are skies,and the morphological features of the foregrounds are obvious.In order to depict the outlines of foreground objects accurately,we first propose a graph-cut-based sky segmentation algorithm in this paper.Instead of the cumbersome manual annotation in the interactive segmentation,the critical background regions are extracted by local regions similarities,and the critical foreground regions are extracted by salient region detection.As a result,the automatic sky segmentation is realized.Furthermore,dense CRFs is used to optimize segmentation results.(2)To obtain better sky segmentation results,a sky fine segmentation algorithm combined with deep learning is proposed.High-level semantic features of images are combined in the critical region extraction to reduce the misclassification of foregrounds and backgrounds.What's more,the guided filter is introduced to achieve fine segmentation,so that good segmentation results can be obtained even for the delicate object edges.(3)According to the characteristics of silhouette photography,the image appearance transfer method is proposed.Due to the large differences between backgrounds and foregrounds in silhouette photos,different appearance transfer methods are adopted respectively based on the sky segmentation.Among them,two ways to realize background appearance transfer are proposed:the background color transfer and the background replacement.For the foreground,an adaptive color correction method according to the ambient color is presented to harmonize the foreground and background and avoid hard results.
