The emergence of the QUIC protocol has brought many new things to the rigid protocol in transport layer.QUIC protocol reduces the handshake time,improves the congestion control mechanism,avoids head of blocking,and supports connection migration.Compared with TCP,QUIC performs better.DASH is an HTTP-based adaptive transmission protocol.It is located at the application layer and is transmitted over TCP.It is a widely used adaptive streaming technology.The most prominent feature is support for rate adaptation.QUIC has many excellent features mentioned above.Whether QUIC can provide better performance than TCP for DASH is the focus of this thesis.Therefore,this thesis will establish DASH over QUIC performance test system to compare the performance of DASH running on QUIC and TCP.DASH over QUIC performance test system consists of a server that supports QUIC/TCP switching,a DASH client that supports QUIC/TCP connection negotiation,and a network-controllable wireless access point.In the experiment,the setting of the network controllable wireless access point ensure the consistent of the client connection network environment,and the fixed bandwidth and variable bandwidth are set to test the key performance indicators of DASH on TCP and QUIC respectively.The test results show that DASH works worse on QUIC than on TCP.First of all,this thesis introduces the background and significance of the topic,and summarizes the research status of the QUIC protocol.Then the related technologies involved in this article,including related technologies of QUIC protocol and DASH protocol are introduced.Then the design and implementation process of performance test system based on DASH over QUIC is given,and some key performance indicators for evaluating the performance of DASH are analyzed and chosen.Then the performance test system is established for testing.Moreover,the effects of DASH running on TCP and QUIC under various network environments are compared horizontally and vertically,and the results are analyzed and discussed.Finally,a new DASH over QUIC solution and algorithm design are proposed based on the experimental results.
