The fifth generation mobile communication needs to transmit a data rate of 1 Gb/s to 10 Gb/s3 and the required frequency band is above 1 GHz.At present, radio frequency resources below 6 GHz obviously cannot meet such a wide spectrum demand. If the advantages of fiber-optic communication with almost unlimited band resources are combined with the requirements and application methods of wireless communication, the development of photonic antennas can just solve the contradiction between supply and demand of the bandwidth and spectrum resources. The main work of this paper is summarized as follows:(1)The structure model and implementation of the photonic antenna are proposed.A 4-cell microstrip rectangular antenna array is designed. The feed network uses a multi-level T-type Wilkinson power divider with?/4 impedance matching branch design. The three-dimensional electromagnetic field simulation software Ansoft HFSS is used to simulate the construction and optimization of the antenna array model. The simulation results show that the antenna array impedance bandwidth(S11?10dB)can reach 0.8GHz,and the maximum gain in the bandwidth is 13.3dBi.The designed antenna is measured in the electromagnetic darkroom, and the measured gain can reach 9.15 dBi.(2)The photosystem based on photonic antenna is proposed and designed. The design and construction of the system model are analyzed and explained in detail. The external optical heterodyne method is used to generate the required high-frequency signals, and the designed antenna is applied to the photosystem. The optical communication system simulation platform Optisystem is used to build and simulate the system. The antenna was processed and tested systematically. The measured gain of the photonic antenna was 12.49 dBi.Photonic antennas enable direct conversion of light waves to microwaves, millimeter waves, and even terahertz waves. After simulation and experimental tests, the results show that the test results are basically consistent with the simulation results, which verifies the rationality of the design. The antenna has good performance and can be widely applied in the field of future mobile communication network coverage.
