In recent years, with the improvement of people's material living standards, structural color has become a research hotspot again.Structural color is the color produced by the diffraction, refraction, interference and other phenomena caused by the nanoscale microstructure of the material itself. It has many advantages:high color saturation and brightness, with iridescent effect,non-fading and environmental friendly, and has been widely used in all walks of life.Among them, the structural color of thin films has become the most common structural color in our daily life because of its simple structure and controllable color.By designing multilayer thin films with different structures,we can get all kinds of required colors, which can basically meet the market demand.Up to now,the research on structural color of thin films is generally based on metal-dielectric Fabry-Perot structure or transparent oxide quarter-wavelength stack. The application of iron oxides in color field is mainly concentrated in pearlescent pigments, and more of them are prepared by chemical deposition method. In this paper, for the first time, iron oxide is introduced into the design of structural color of multilayer interference films. The iron oxide is used to enhance the color rendering effect of interferometric color,so that the resulting structural color has higher color saturation, and has metallic luster and gonioapparent effect.Electron beam evaporation and ion-assisted deposition were used to prepare the thin films. In this paper, the formation mechanism of structural color and the basic theory of optical thin films are systematically described. The optical properties of iron oxides and the design and preparation of structural color of multilayer films are well-studied.For the first time, the optical constants of single-layer iron oxide thin films prepared by electron beam evaporation and ion-assisted deposition were accurately obtained by full-spectrum fitting method in the field of optical thin films. Two kinds of multilayer films based on iron oxide were designed and prepared by electron beam evaporation and ion-assisted deposition. Two kinds of saturated and metallic multilayer films with yellow-green to blue and orange-red to cyan(observation angle is 0-60 degrees)were obtained. They have great application prospects in anti-counterfeiting,automotive,electronic products, decoration and other fields.
