Optical fiber amplifier(OFA)is a device for optical signal amplification. It is based on the stimulated emission characteristic of optical gain materials. And can realize the function of intensity amplification in case of guaranteeing the invariability of amplitude, phase, frequency and other optical parameters for weak optical signals by pumping gain materials.OFAs have been widely applied in signal relay and integration in fiber communication, and inorganic OFAs doped with rare earth elements(such as Er,Pr,Tm)have been well-studied and widely applied. However, the lowloss windows for inorganic OFAs are located in far infrared region at 1.31 ?m and 1.51 ?m,lacking of amplifiers for visible range.Compared with far infrared optical signal amplifiers, the visible optical signal amplifiers allow large amout of signal tranmission and they are easy-detectable.Compared with inorganic laser gain materials, organic laser materials have many unique spectral characteristics in visible range, which have high research value.Besides, several low-loss windows(450-520 nm,560 nm and 650 nm)have been found for organic laser materials when visible optical signals propagating in plastic optical fibers(POF),which provide many superior conditions for the application of visible light communication.Meanwhile, two different pumping methods were used during the process of organic OFAs development to obtain a more proper design scheme by the comparison. So based on the principle of inorganic OFAs as well as the design of optical path and pumping method, this research subject hope that the working wavelength can be moved to visible range(blue so far: 400-500 nm)by deeply studying the optical gain properties of organic laser materials selected. The main research contents are shown as follows:(1)Investigate the amplified spontaneous emission(ASE)and distributed feedback(DFB)laser characteristics of two well-performed bule-emitting organic conjugated polymers: PCF and Heptamer, and study the effects of phase separation and ? phase on film's ASE,DFB laser characteristics as well as the photo and thermal stability of laser outputing. The results show phase separation and ? phase have vital influences on film optical characteristics;(2)Research the influences of grating period, filling factor and dimension on DFB laser performance and optimize the best DFB periode and filling factor for different gain materials;(3)Establish the optical path for organic OFA measurement, and investigate the optical amplification gain results for different organic laser materials. The research results show that Heptamer has well-performed optical gain properties and can becompatible with PS.The phase separation is not obvious when Heptamer blended with PS up to 50 wt%,and the optical and thermal stability for gain materials are improved obviously; The preliminary measurement results indicate that optical gain of 19 d B can be obtained in the optical fiber amplifier with Heptamer as optical gain material; So we suggest Heptamer could be ideal optical gain material when blended with PS and can realize the optical fiber amplifers for visible range.
