Application Of K-means Algorithm In Course Selection System

With the rapid development and wide spread of modern information technologies,many colleges and universities choose to use public course selection system,which displays a remarkable efficiency in teaching management and greatly facilitates students' life.However,lots of systems are restricted by their processing capacity and technical level when they were developed.How to develop and utilize the smart recommendation function of the system so that every student can choose the best suitable course for himself to learn hasn't been taken into full consideration by developers.The paper firstly introduces theories related to data mining technique.Besides,it combines practical using situation of course selection system in colleges and universities,applies K-means algorithm and data mining technique to this system which helps students choose the most promising subjects in the quickest time by analyzing students' respective historical grade.Therefore,the system avoids students from blind choices and makes all of them acquire their most favorable learning resources.The front-desk uses ASPNET technique to design and develop systematically,and data storage takes SQL SERVER 2012 as its medium.Moreover,the background processing system uses C/S mode.By adopting these techniques above,K-means algorithm can be inserted into online course selection system;hence,every student can choose subject that suits him which will improve his enthusiasm in learning and optimize the teaching quality.
