The consensus of multi-agent system is the theoretical basis of distributed computation and attracts much attention of scholars in many fields such as mathematics, physics, biology, social sciences, information science, and control. The theoretical results have been widely used by many areas such as UAV flight formation control, aggregation control, and satellite formation control, etc. This paper focuses on the group consensus of high-order multi-agent system with directed topology. The work of this article is described as follows:1.This paper is concerned with the group consensus problem for third-order multi-agent system with fixed directed topology under continuous time.By using algebraic graph theory and matrix theory, necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for multi-agent systems to achieve group consensus. Finally,a simulation example is given to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical results.2.This paper also studies the group consensus problem of the third-order multi-agent system under discrete time.In order that the multi-agent systems achieve group consensus, the proper consensus algorithm is designed. Then we find the necessary and sufficient conditions to ensure the group consensus.Furthermore,we determine the range of gain parameters when each agent can eventually reach group consensus states. Finally,a numerical simulation is used to verify the validity of the conclusion.
