The traditional video only supports single-view,while VR video covers image information in all directions within a scene.It can provide an immersive feeling,allowing people to freely watch from any angle.So it gives people an intense sense of reality and immersion.However,VR video includes information in all directions,the amount of data is much larger than that of the traditional video.So data storage and transmission are the two biggest challenges that VR video currently faces.The projection and layout methods of VR panoramic video have a great influence on the quality of the video.The existing methods have their own advantages and disadvantages.For the above problems,this thesis studies the projection and layout methods of VR panoramic video.The main research contents are divided into the following parts:1.A continuous layout method based on the octahedron projection is proposed.After the panoramic video is projected as a planar video,it needs to be re-arranged.Existing layout methods make discontinuous borderlines exist in the video,the method proposed in this thesis eliminates discontinuous borderlines and performs well in terms of boundary continuity.2.A well-distributed projection method is proposed.The mainstream methods use geometric projection,which easily results in non-uniform distribution of pixels.We use non-geometric projection method to make pixels are more evenly distributed.3.New evaluation methods was proposed to test the pros and cons of the projection layout solution.We propose a method based on spherical trigonometry to calculate the pixel density.And we propose a method to test the continuity using a reference map with a strongly related texture.Thus,the performance tests of a certain projection and layout solution in these two aspects become simpler and more intuitive.Based on the new projection and layout solution we proposed,the thesis compares the existing solutions in terms of pixel density uniformity and boundary continuity,and verifies the effectiveness of the evaluation methods and projection layout methods we proposed.
