Research Of Motor Vehicle License Plate Recognition Technology

Automatic management of urban traffic is the most inevitable development direction in the future traffic management,motor vehicle license plate is the most significant sign which distinguish vehicles,it becomes the key that collect license plate information accurately and efficiently.Location of license plates,segmentation of license plate characters and recognition of license plate characters,are the three constituent parts of vehicle license plate recognition system.This article combines the characteristics of Chinese license plates,fix position for license plates through using the method of color pixels as the basis.Making image enhancement,image graying,edge detection and binarization processing for the positioned license plate image,maximizing contrast between vehicle license plate characters and its background.Adopt the way of geometric projection which is vertical projection method to segment vehicle characters,shadow the white point on the image to horizontal plane along the direction of plumb line,get the position of white point on the horizontal plane,and then obtain block graphics corresponding characters.Make balanced normalization processing for obtained characters,extract the features of characters block LBP,take characters recognition through using SVM method,and finally get the complete license plate characters.This article takes advantage of Matlab programming software to design license plate recognition system,establish user interface,get license plate recognition technology,core code,flow chart and arithmetic through programming.The result shows that the recognition rate of vehicle license plate is very high.
