With satellite radar altimeters,We can obtain global sea surface height, significant wave height, and sea surface wind speed,we can also do research in sea ice and inland measurements. It's of great importance to use satellite radar altimeter to research ice sheets for studying global climate change.Due to the different statistical rules between sea surface echo and sea ice echo signal, the processing methods are also different. In this paper,we discuss the principle of radar altimeter measurement and the processing methods.,analyze the characteristics of radar altimeter echo waveform from ice.The OCOG algorithm,multi-parameter fitting algorithm,ice1 algorithm and ice2 algorithm that can be applied to ice measurement are studied and simulated. The result shows that the traditional OCOG algorithm using power-squared weighting method has a lower success rate when re-tracking ice echo signals. This paper proposes a power-weighted OCOG algorithm to improve the ice tracking performance. We also discuss the cross-point processing and data grid processing methods based on altimeter satellites, and process the radar altimeter data of China's HY-2A satellites. The cross-point data between HY-2A up-track and down-track is used for self-intersection processing. The local surface fitting method is used in data grid processing.Using OCOG algorithm,multi-parameter fitting algorithm,ice1 algorithm,ice2 algorithm and improved OCOG algorithm, the DEM map of Antarctic ice surface based on HY-2A radar altimeter data is obtained. At the same time, the cross-point data is used to evaluate the results of the five different algorithms, and the standard deviation of the improved OCOG algorithm processing results is the smallest.Using the improved OCOG algorithm,one-year Antarctic elevation data was processed to obtain monthly changes and seasonal changes in the elevation of the ice sheet.
