From the perspective of theory of self-leadership,this study conducted in-depth interviews with 15 graduate students whose willingness to the masters' degree turns from hesitation to firmness.By using the methods of interview and literature,this paper studies the formation mechanism of graduate students' willingness to the masters' degree.The purpose of this study is to answer: how does the graduate student's willingness to the masters' degree come into being? Which factors influence it? In this process,what is the development of their academic selfauthorship?The results show that the generation of graduate students' willingness to the masters' degree is influenced by complex factors,including parents,teachers,peers,academic experience and self judgment.The generation is closely related to individual experience and has obvious stage characteristics.It can be roughly divided into the following four stages: follow the external authority-academic ignorance stage.At this stage,master students follow the authority of teachers,meet the expectation of parents,refer to peers or follow the management and evaluation of curriculum,and do not actively think deeply about whether they will engage in academic research or study for a doctorate in the future.After that,they enter the stage of wandering at the crossroads-the stage of academic confusion.At this time,the master students experienced profound emotional experiences such as confusion and pain,so they appealed to authority again,and measured the external voice and their internal thoughts.Important persons such as tutors,partners,etc.And important events such as paper publishing can help them to get out of academic confusion and move to the next stage smoothly.At this stage,the master students listen to and trust the internal voice,get rid of the academic confusion,make the decision to study for a doctorate,and start to become self-authored.Internal belief building-the stage of academic rationality.In this stage,master students plan themselves according to the standards of future researchers and doctors,and are firmer in their decision to study for a doctoral degree.In this process,the graduate students not only generate the willingness to study for a doctorate degree,but also make them follow the internal voice when making important decisions and move towards self-guidance.The above four stages of willingness to the master's degree students are integrated.Not every interviewee will go through all stages.Influenced by some factors,very few interviewees have not established internal beliefs and formed academic rationality.But on the whole,the vast majority of respondents show such characteristics.At the same time,the development stage has individual differences.Even at the same stage,the specific performance of the master students is different.The duration of the stage and the degree of experience of the interviewees are different.Finally,gender differences,Female respondents pay more attention to their parents' opinions than male respondents,and the generation of willingness to the master's degree often implies catering,obedience,companionship and return to their parents.In a word,the generation of graduate students' willingness to study is a process of dynamic development.In a word,the academic motivation of the master's students is constructed by the individual in the complex social environment,which is a dynamic development process.In this process,the internal voice of the master students occupies the core,and the self-authorship is improved.Therefore,the formation stage of the academic motivation of the master's students is consistent with the stage of the SelfAuthorship Theory as a whole,and has consistency in the theoretical premise,so it can be explained by this theory.In order to enhance the willingness to the masters' degree,the following strategies can be adopted: first,implement the training program focusing on the academic training of master students;second,change the selection and evaluation system of tutors to improve the quality of tutor guidance and the matching degree between teachers and students;third,strengthen psychological guidance to help master students get out of the academic world.Finally,the master students should listen to the internal voice and improve their self-authorship.In a word,this study tries to build an analysis framework of the formation mechanism of the master students' willingness to the masters' degree,helps people to deeply understand the actual situation of the formation of the master students' willingness to the masters' degree,provides a useful reference for the promotion of the willingness to the masters' degree of the master students and the improvement of the quality of training,and also lays the foundation for the future research.
