In recent years,Chinese language education in the United States has been getting into difficulties:the successive suspend of Confucius Institutes and the tightening of visa policies have caused some restrictions on volunteer Chinese teachers selected by Hanban. To comply with the policies, many elementary and middle schools in cooperation with the Confucius Institute have adopted cooperative teaching models between Chinese and native teachers to ensure the normal running of Chinese courses in schools. The author conducted a ten-month teaching internship along with another volunteer at the Presbyterian College Confucius Institute in South Carolina, the United States from August 2019 to June 2020.During their work in local elementary schools, both volunteers needed to cooperate with teachers of other subjects in the school to teach. This cooperation model is called" Attaching Chinese with Other Subjects " by their schools. This article introduces the basic working routines of volunteer Chinese teachers and the effect of cooperation between Chinese and local teachers through case analysis and interviews, analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of different curriculum arrangements, and try to give some suggestions for the future development of this cooperation model. The first chapter of this article summarizes the challenges and difficulties encountered by volunteer Chinese teachers in the United States, and briefly introduces the features of the "attaching" Chinese-foreign teacher cooperation model. However,it is also found that the current research on this model is relatively limited,so this is a new phenomenon worth exploring in the Chinese language teaching field. The second chapter explains the general situation of Chinese teaching in South Carolina, and then introduces three types of more representative Chinese courses, including college credit courses,East Point immersion courses and Chinese interest courses in primary and middle schools, explaining the background of the "attaching"Chinese-foreign teacher cooperation model. The third chapter describes the specific content of the "attaching"Chinese-foreign cooperation model in detail, and visually demonstrates the problems in the cooperating process through case analysis. The fourth chapter analyzes the effects of cooperation between volunteers and local teachers, based on volunteer teaching logs, teaching cases and cooperative teacher evaluation forms, then conduct some comparative discussionsThe fifth chapter summarizes the advantages and problems of the "attaching"Chinese-foreign cooperation model, and puts forward some optimization suggestions. At the same time,it further discusses the proper target positioning of Chinese interest courses under this model. The sixth chapter is the final conclusion of this article, summarizing the process and results of this research, and points out the limitations of the research and the direction for future development.
