Social Insurance And National Happiness

Over the past 40 years of reform and opening up,China's economy has experienced rapid development,achieved a "growth miracle" that has attracted worldwide attention,and national income has been greatly increased.Existing research shows that the national happiness has not increased significantly with economic growth,and the so-called "Easterlin Paradox" trap has emerged,falling into the "happiness stagnation" dilemma.In recent years,national happiness has become a hot topic of discussion.The report of the 19 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China clearly stated that people's longing for a better life is the goal of the country 's struggle.As an important part of China's social security,social insurance plays an important role in maintaining social stability,redistributing income,and achieving social equity.At present,research on the effect of social insurance from the perspective of well-being is relatively scarce.Most scholars' research mainly focuses on exploring the impact of social insurance on economic indicators such as income,household financial asset selection,and consumption.Few scholars from the perspective of national well-being Study the effect of social insurance.Therefore,this article links social insurance and national happiness to conduct research,and attempts to reveal the impact of social insurance on national happiness,which is expected to provide a reference for China to establish a social insurance system that is guided by happiness.This article uses the 2015 data of the China Comprehensive Social Survey(CGSS)published in 2018 to establish the Oprobit model for regression analysis,taking China's medical insurance and pension insurance as the main research objects,and studys the relationship between social insurance and national happiness from the perspective of social insurance participation behavior and satisfaction.The results of the study show that if only the effect of participating in a single insurance is considered,residents participating in medical insurance are 11.0% more happy than non-participants,and residents participating in pension insurance are 5.1% higher than non-participants;if both medical insurance and pension insurance are considered,the impact of medical insurance and pension insurance can improve national well-being,but medical insurance has a greater impact on improving national well-being than pension insurance.Participation in social insurance and the improvement of social insurance satisfaction can promote national well-being.Analysis of the mechanismshows that residents participating in social insurance have an enhanced role in the recognition of social equity,and their happiness is higher.The possible reason is that social insurance can improve residents' fair cognition,reduce residents' insecurity,and affect residents' life satisfaction and happiness.In addition,there are differences in the impact of social insurance participation behavior and social insurance satisfaction on the happiness of different groups of residents.Specifically,it is found in the urban and rural grouping that whether rural or urban,participation in social insurance and social insurance satisfaction can significantly improve national well-being,but urban residents' participation in social insurance and social insurance satisfaction have a higher happiness effect than rural residents;In the income group,it is found that low-income residents' participation in social insurance brings higher happiness effects than high-income residents.In terms of social insurance satisfaction,the low-income group and high-income group 's social insurance satisfaction both positively affect happiness,and the happiness effect of the low-income group and the high-income group is not significantly different;In the age group,it is found that the effect of social insurance participation on well-being is only under 60 years of age significantly medium,but the impact of social insurance satisfaction on national well-being is significant among groups of different ages,and as age increases,the marginal effect of social insurance satisfaction on well-being increases.Based on the above analysis,this article believes that social insurance should also keep pace with the times,constantly improves the social insurance system,and effectively plays the role of social insurance to enhance residents' happiness.In this regard,this article proposes the following suggestions: The government should increase the coverage of social insurance,achieve universal coverage,especially the coverage of pension insurance,and fully play the role of social insurance in the protection of national life;for medical insurance,it must be further improved rural medical insurance system,improve the rural medical assistance system;for pension insurance,the state should appropriately increase the level of pension insurance treatment;for urban and rural residents,different income levels and residents of different ages to develop different social insurance plans,so that all nationals,especially vulnerable groups can also enjoy the fruits of economic development.
