There is a lack of curriculum-based assessment tools for children with special needs in early childhood inclusive education,especially the tools that target at social-communication.Thus,this study introduced Assessment,Evaluation,and Programming System(AEPS),a high-quality,reliable and stable educational assessment tool that has been widely used in the United States.It has eight development areas,including Social-Communication Area.Since there is a lack of research on the psychometric properties of AEPS-3,this study investigated the scientific and utility of the Social-Communication Area of AEPS-3 with questionnaire and observation.The first stage of the study was the revision of AEPS-3.The literal translation,back translation,culture modification and mutual discussion to the form the Chinese version of AEPS-3 were carried out under the review of experts.The second stage was the application of AEPS-3(Chinese version).205 children age 43-72 months from inclusive kindergartens in Qingdao and Zhengzhou and 26 raters took part in this study.The results showed that:First,The Chinese version of the Social-Communication Area of AEPS-3 was 0.970,and the reliability among Strands was 0.880-0.921.The test-retest reliability is 0.927,with each dimension is0.836-0.955.It indicated that the scale has great reliability and stability.Inter-observer reliability among graduate students is 0.588 and the correlation of the total score is0.962.Between graduate students and teachers,the inter-observer reliability is 0.553,while Pearson product-moment correlations is 0.768.The correlation coefficient between parents and graduate students is over 0.70.There is a stable consistency and accuracy among observers.Second,Experts believe that the order of long-term goals and short-term goals conforms to the developmental sequence of children's social-communication.The mean score in the indexes of functional,measurable,comprehensible of the scale is higher than 3,which indicates a great content validity.The correlation between dimension and scale is 0.844-0.961,indicating great internal consistency.The result of the Rasch Model shows that the scale is relatively simple for typical children age 43-72 months.Although the sequence of items conforms to the sequence of children's development,there are still a few abnormal items.Third,all raters agreed that the goals,criterion and examples of the scale are easy to understand,and the goals are teachable and functional.The scale is authentic,flexible,and instance,which achieves good performance in programming assessment,goal development,intervention,andevaluation.In conclusion,the Social-Communication area of AEPS-3(Chinese version)is applicable to assess the relevant ability of children age 43-72 months in China.It is a Curriculum-Based and Authenticity Assessment tool,which is suitable for application in early childhood inclusive education,especially for teacher teaching and child development.
