The development of science and technology and the economy has promoted the progress of secondary education in various countries around the world, and secondary education has once again focused on the issues of elite and mass education. After several twists and turns in the reform of English grammar schools,it is ultimately a balance between the development of elite education and mass education, and the development of education towards the direction of democratization and quality. The main object of the study is the English grammar school. The main content is to analyze the background, progress and results of the grammar school reform.A comparative study of English grammar schools and high-quality middle schools in China, analyzes the differences, summarizes experiences, provides theoretical guidance for high-quality middle schools in China in theory, and provides experience and technical guidance in practice.Research methods in comparative education, methods of factor analysis, historical research methods and other research methods are the main methods for research applications. In the history of more than half a century after the war, grammar schools have experienced the recovery and adjustment in the early period after the war,the implementation of the ban,the release of restrictions and other development periods. This paper focuses on the overall development of grammar schools, analyzes the whole process of the reform period, sorts out the reform context of grammar schools, and takes the reform context of the whole period as the main research content of this paper. The reform of grammar schools reflects the restriction and influence of the British political parties on education policy, education democratization and education equity. In the course of the development of the British grammar school reform,it is gradually realized that reducing the number of grammar schools can not fundamentally solve the problem of fairness in secondary education.Secondly, the British grammar school is restricted by the special political party ruling influence in the UK.Finally, the limitations of the grammar school itself make it difficult for it to become a world-class school. The reform of secondary education in China should draw lessons from the beneficial experience of the reform of British grammar schools, optimize the top-level policy design, improve the overall efficiency of the reform, provide multiple educational choices, promote the process ofeducational democracy, rationally allocate educational resources, pursue the balanced development of education, reform the elite selection method, realize the open and inclusive selection, base on the educational tradition of our country, and draw lessons from the successful experience of the reform.
