The teaching of physical model construction is to let students grasp the essential characteristics of the prototype,simplify the prototype,use the materials and tools around to build model that reflects the essence of the prototype,and obtain the relevant information of the prototype by studying the model,so as to establish the foundation for the formation of theoretical knowledge.It is taken the advocacy of inquiry learning as one of the basic concepts in Biology Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011Edition),trying to change the state of students' passive acceptance and guide students to actively participate in classroom teaching.The teaching process of physical model is exactly the process of students' active participation and hands-on production,and the process of inquiry learning with physical model construction as the carrier.Based on the teaching concept of physical model construction,the author puts forward the general process of physical model construction.The construction process consists of six parts:(1)Prototype determination;(2)Material selection;(3)Design of the modeling scheme;(4)Specific implementation of model construction;(5)Display and evaluation of the model;(6)Inspection and improvement of the model.The author conducted a practical research on the construction of physical model in the teaching of biology in the first volume of eighth grade,taking the eighth grade students of a middle school as the research objects,using the methods of literature research,questionnaire survey,interview,case analysis and action research.The results are as follows:(1)The author interviewed the teachers of a middle school with the interview method,and found that the teachers had a positive attitude towards the teaching of physical model construction in the biology class of junior high school,and agreed that it was feasible to apply the teaching of physical model construction to the practicalresearch of biology teaching.(2)By using the method of questionnaire survey,two classes of eighth grade students were investigated.The results showed that after the teaching practice of physical model construction,the students' learning interest,model cognition,modeling ability and modeling awareness were improved on the four dimensions,and there were the significantly differences among two dimensions of learning interest and modeling awareness,and there was the highly significant difference among the dimension of model cognition.(3)The students' test performance analysis showed that the biological performance of students in both classes had been improved after the teaching practice of physical model construction,.To sum up,the application of physical model construction teaching in junior high school biology classroom improved and developed biology teaching methods,which increased students' interest in biology learning,improved students' understanding of the model and their emphasis on physical model construction,and trained students' practical operation ability and creative thinking.The basic data for the front-line teachers to construct physical model was provided.
