As a backup force for the development of science and technology, middle school students' attitude towards scientists affects their willingness to pursue science-related careers in the future.Studies have shown that textbooks and teachers are important sources of scientists' image of middle school students. At present, most of the relevant researches are on the external image of scientists using Chambers' DAST.This study will study the image of scientists from the perspective of middle school education, looking for the differences and connections between the scientists' images in textbooks, teachers and students,in order to understand the influence of textbooks and teachers on the scientists' image of middle school students.Conducting quantitative statistics and qualitative analysis of scientists' materials in middle school textbooks published by people's education press. The results show that the scientists' images in middle school textbooks have the following characteristics:(1)external image: western men are the majority, most of them wear formal clothes, clean hair,no beard,no glasses, almost no fashion accessories such as necklace and earrings, most of their faces are expressionless, and their workplaces are sometimes indoors, but also outdoors in many cases;(2)inner image: there are more descriptions of scientists' cognition and emotions, but less descriptions of morality, work and life.In terms of cognition, emotion and morality, the textbook gives a very positive evaluation of scientists. In terms of work, scientific research is a double-edged sword, with both contributions and harms. In the aspect of life, scientists are great, but also have theinterest in life.A questionnaire on the scientists' image was designed, and the improved DAST was used to change "painting" into "multiple choice" to investigate the external image of scientists of middle school teachers. Then a five-point semantic difference scale and a five-grade likert scale were used to investigate the internal scientists' image of middle school teachers. The results show that the scientists' image of middle school teachers has the following characteristics:(1)the external image: most are wearing a lab coat, wearing glasses, disheveled hair, some have beards,middle-aged and old, male,Chinese, seldom wear necklaces or earrings, most are engaged in the research work indoors, especially to do experiments in the laboratory,is often a deadpan or were very excited because some scientific discovery;(2)inner image: scientists are considered to have high intelligence quotient, high emotional quotient and noble moral qualities. In terms of job characteristics,it believes that scientific work is beneficial to human life, but also bears many social responsibilities, such as protecting life, and believes that scientific research should not be responsible for war and pollution. In terms of life status,it is believed that scientists have no time to take care of their families due to their busy work, but scientists are not nerds.Scientists are also artistic, passionate and plain as ordinary people.According to the questionnaire survey on the scientists' image among middle school students,it is found that the image of scientists among middle school students has the following characteristics:(1)external image: most wearing lab clothes, wearing glasses,middle-aged and old people, male,Chinese, messy hair, some have beard, working indoors, especially in the laboratory, usually expressionless or excited "Shouting",engaged in research rather than application work;(2)inner image: scientists are thought to have high intelligence quotient, high emotional quotient and high moral character. In terms of work,it is believed that scientific research work is more dangerous, but it is beneficial to human life, and bears the social responsibility of protecting more lives. However, scientific research work should not be responsible for war and pollution. In terms of life, scientists are thought to be busy with their work, butthey also have their own fun in life.A comparative study on the image of scientists in middle school textbooks, teachers and students shows that:(1)most of the scientists most impressed by teachers and students have appeared in textbooks, and many of the scientists most impressed by students are also the scientists most impressed by teachers;(2)the scientists' image of teachers and students are highly consistent, but there are also differences. In terms of external image, students hold a deeper stereotype, while in terms of internal image, teachers hold a more "sacred" image of scientists.(3)textbooks,students and teachers coexist in the consistency and difference in the external image of scientists, while the internal image presents a strong consistency. The study conducted in-depth interviews with middle school students and then comprehensively analyzed the interview results and the results of the comparative study. It is found that textbooks and teachers have some influence on the scientists' image of middle school students.Middle school students expressed their opinions about scientists, some of which had been seen in textbooks and some of which had been mentioned by teachers.
