The undergraduate is an important part of higher education system,which is the largest group of training outstanding personnel.The undergraduate education is a vital foundation to improve the quality of higher education.In June 2018,the National Conference on Undergraduate Education in New Era,which was held in Chengdu,Sichuan Province,emphasized that “the undergraduate education should be placed in the core position of talent cultivation,the basic position of teaching,and the leading position of education development”,and pointed out that “to establish the world-class universities,the talent cultivation is the foundation,while the undergraduate education is the root of higher education”.According to this announcement,it is obvious that the improvement of the undergraduate education has become an urgent task of higher education reform in China.Because of the excellent undergraduate education,Cambridge University won the “gold medal” in the second round evaluation of TEF in 2017,and the ratio of undergraduate students' satisfaction with teaching reached more than 90%.Besides,its graduates are favored by employers in various social fields.This study attempts to take Cambridge University as the research object.Through the means of literature analysis,case study and comparison,the purpose of this paper is to explore the high quality undergraduate education in Cambridge University from the aspects of training objectives,management system,curriculum system and teaching methods,and to reveal the secrets of cultivating the elite.Then,the characteristics of the undergraduate education of Cambridge University and its enlightenment to China are summarized.This dissertation is divided into five parts: the introduction describesthe origin and significance of the research,summarizes the current situation of undergraduate education at home and abroad by the thematics,defines the relevant concepts,and introduces the research methods and research ideas.The first chapter states the guiding ideology of undergraduate education of Cambridge University.With the emergence of the Renaissance,the essence of humanistic education and liberal education gradually penetrated into the field of British education,especially the British universities.The second chapter discusses the situation of the undergraduate education of Cambridge University.In the course of history,the success of Cambridge University's undergraduate education is inseparable from its coordination and unity in all aspects.It aims to cultivate social elites all the time.Through unique college management,complete curriculum system and flexible teaching methods,it provides a favourable education support system for undergraduates,so as to ensure the education quality of undergraduates.The third chapter summarizes the undergraduate education's traits of Cambridge University.Cambridge University has been adhering to the concept of liberty education with the mission of cultivating social elites,and advocates student-oriented to develop the comprehensive quality and civic awareness of undergraduates.Its collegiate system management with the unique community life mode contributes to the multiple cultures,and promotes the intercultural and interdisciplinary exchange among undergraduates.Besides,the modular curriculum system for undergraduates is composed of many elements,not only focusing on the integration of curriculum content,but also on the flexibility of curriculum setting.What's more,the teaching method is mainly research-based teaching.In order to develop undergraduates' independent scientificresearch ability,not only does it emphasize the dialectical unity of teachers' teaching and students' learning but also the combination of teachers' teaching and students' research.The fourth chapter based on the situation of China's undergraduate education expounds the enlightenment of Cambridge University's undergraduate education to our country.
