With the continuous expansion of postgraduate education in China,the contradiction between the quality and quantity of postgraduate education is increasingly prominent.The quality of postgraduate students is the basis of that of postgraduate education,and the guarantee of the quality of postgraduate students is the prerequisite for improving the quality of postgraduate education and meeting the social demands for highlevel talents.Recent years,the reform of postgraduate education in China has been comprehensively deepened,the power of postgraduate education management has been decentralized,and the focus of management has been gradually shifted downward.It is of great practical significance to measure and analyze the quality of graduate students at the regional level,so as to improve the management level of graduate students in colleges and universities in the region and strengthen the construction of the quality of graduate students in the whole province.Therefore,this study selected the enrollment data of master's students from 17 universities in Hunan province.On the basis of clarifying the basic concept of graduate student quality,the evaluation index system of graduate student quality is constructed to evaluate the quality of graduate student in 17 universities in Hunan province.This study will evaluate the quality of postgraduate students of provincial colleges and universities from the aspects of attraction,personal ability and admission structure of candidates,according to the index selection principle is established including "The ratio of the number of applicants to the enrollment plan"," Proportion of candidates from outside the province","Proportion of 211 universities","The ratio of exemption is recommended","Actual acceptance rate","Enrollment completion rate","Adjust students proportion" seven specific index,index evaluation system to graduate matriculate quality master's.The index model was used to measure the quality of students from 17 universities in Hunan province from three dimensions.At the same time,combined with cluster analysis,the relative level and dynamic level of the quality of postgraduate students in colleges and universities in the province were compared,and the characteristics were further analyzed according to the statistical results.The results show that under the background of current enrollment expansion,the overall quality of postgraduate students in Hunan province has improved slightly in the past three years.Due to the change of supply and demand of graduate education,the quality of students from different universities presents the "Matthew effect".The rapid expansion of postgraduate enrollment has a negative effect on a few universities.Highlevel colleges and universities have absolute advantages in the competition for students.The category of universities has a significant influence on the rationality of the allocation of graduate student enrollment plan.Based on the above conclusions,this study puts forward several development Suggestions from the macro level of the province and the micro level of the university.Expand the channels of high-quality students and adjust the expansion of postgraduate enrollment.Attach importance to the construction of first-class disciplines and strengthen the publicity of postgraduate enrollment.It emphasizes the reform of organizational structure,optimizes the allocation mechanism of enrollment plan to improve the quality of students and further promote the healthy development of postgraduate education in the province.
