Ruler and compass construction plays an important role in cultivating students' ability of mathematical expression and logical thinking.This study employed the qualitative research method,which is aimed at the qualitative analysis of 9th grade students' ability level of ruler and compass construction,exploring the problems existing,and proposing relevant teaching suggestions.Through the review of the literature,a framework for the ability level of ruler and compass construction was established,and a relevant test was developed for verification and exploration.Through the "thinking aloud method",the students' thinking during the test was explored.Through a ease study of 4 junior high school students,the problems that students may have when drawing with ruler and compass were explored and the relevant teaching suggestions were proposed.This study showed that:(1)A framework was proposed for evaluating students' ability of ruler and compass construction from three dimensions:operation,description and analysis.Each dimension has three levels.It was confirmed that the framework is practical.(2)The internal factors that affect students' ability of ruler and compass construction are divided into two aspects:non-intellectual factors(reading,problem-solving habits and interest in learning)and intellectual factors(reserve and application of knowledge).(3)According to the test results,four teaching suggestions are put forward:focus on essential teaching,logic teaching,serial teaching and layered teaching.
