Abstract/Summary:
Chung Chi Yung(1920-2014),the founder of Hong Kong Shue Yan University,is an outstanding educator.She graduated from Wuhan University where was moved to Leshan,Sichuan and then obtained her PH.D in Paris University,France.So she had a good command of both Chinese and Western studies.Since 1955,she settled in Hong Kong and has taught in the United College of Hong Kong,Chung Chi College,and Baptist College.She is mainly engaged in the teaching and research of law and sociology.In 1971,Chung Chi Yung felt that Hong Kong's higher education degree was scarce and a large number of aspiring young people were refused outside the institutions of higher learning.Therefore Chung Chi Yung worked with her husband,Mr.Henry H.L.Hu,to founder Hong Kong Shue Yan College which was later renamed Hong Kong Shue Yan University.As a principal,it is her duty to uphold morality and cultivate young people.In 1994,because of her extensive influence in Hong Kong society,she was appointed as a consultant for Hong Kong affairs by the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council and the Hong Kong Branch of Xinhua News Agency.She is also a member of the Basic Law Consultative Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China.In 2000,Chung Chi Yung was awarded the Golden Bauhinia Star by the SAR Government for her several decades of sobbing and diligent achievements in running schools and his significant contribution to Hong Kong society.In 2008,Chung Chi Yung and her husband,Mr.Henry H.L.Hu,were selected by CCTV as " 2007 Extraordinary Chinese People" and regarded as "the model of education".This paper combs Chung Chi Yung 's educational life,sums up Chung Chi Yung 's thoughts and practices on higher education,tries to analyze Chung Chi Yung 's thoughts on higher education from various angles,and probes into the value of educators running schools and the cultural identity of Hong Kong.The study has practical significance.The core of Chung Chi Yung 's higher education thought is "With Ran build Ran",which mainly covers the following three connotations: With "Ran" build Ran,orientation of School-running View,With Ran "build" Ran,decision of School management View,With Ran build "Ran",Training View of modern gentleman's education.In nearly 60 years of higher education practice,her educational thought and practice are closely linked,from imperfection to perfection,from immaturity to maturity,and ultimately form a system with strong patriotism,humanistic feelings and educational feelings.Hong Kong Shue Yan University is now well-known both at home and abroad and a model of private education in Hong Kong.Throughout the school-running process,Chung Chi Yung had always seen the significance of the inheritance of Chinese traditional culture,attached great importance to the proportion of Chinese in teaching,actively expanded the influence of Chinese culture,and effectively promoted the recognition of Chinese traditional culture by the younger generation of Hong Kong and even the whole society of Hong Kong.
