The influence of multicultural experience on individual cognitive processing is one of the hot issues of social psychology, which has attracted wide attention of researchers.Studies have shown that multicultural experiences are closely related to cognitive activities such as attention control, cognitive complexity and creative problem solving. The study found that whether it is a long-term living in other cultural environments,or a short-term multicultural experience in the laboratory, multicultural experiences facilitate local processing style of minority group members. However, the subjects selected in this type of study were members of the majority group and did not involve members of minority groups.Majority group members and minority group members differ in terms of cognitive processing, stereotypes, and well-being.Then,the minority members with multicultural experience are like the majority of members with multicultural experience. With regard to minority group members,do multicultural experiences facilitate global processing style similar to the majority group members,or does it facilitate local processing style ?In this regard,Participants were exposed to either a multicultural or a monocultural experience. They were then asked to complete the Navon letter task and the similarities and differences task.Experiment 1 found that most members of the multicultural experience group responded faster to large letters than members of the majority group in the single cultural experience group. This suggests that members of the majority group with multicultural experience tend to work in a holistic manner.Experiment 2 found that minority members of the multicultural experience group responded faster to small letters than minority members of the single cultural experience group;Experiment 3found that minority members of the multicultural experience group were more likely to find differences between things than minority members of the single cultural experience group. The above results indicate that members of minority groups with multicultural experience tend to be localized.
