In the new era,the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core,on the propaganda and ideological work,socialism core values education,and ideological and political work in colleges and universities,requires civilization through culture.Culture,a representation of national ethos,shows its values in helping to cultivate moral characters,foster virtues,and shape souls,and thus facilitates people to form values and outlooks and create spiritual homes.Culture is always the logical starting point from which human beings and human society step into civilization and wisdom,and also is an optimal approach to edify people.In the new situation,it is essential to realize the importance of culture and utilize culture for civilization.Civilization through culture is an eternal topic in different eras,its policies,concepts,and roles varies and its contents and methods dramatically changes.Therefore,only having a profound insight into the connotations of culture,its function and the way it influences human beings can we achieve cultural self-consciousness and gain cultural confidence.This paper focuses on the target,the content and carrier and the realization path of nurture by culture basing on new concepts and new fashions in new situation.Civilization through culture needs to answer three key questions.What is the goal?That is,in terms of moral character,political morality and cultural literacy,what nurture by culture hopes individuals in the society to be,and to what extent the whole society is hoped to reach.This goal is both the beginning and the end of nurture by culture as well.The contents and carriers of nurture by culture answer the question of what we use to civilize ethos and cultural patterns which determine the quality and direction of nurture by culture.The method of nurture by culture answers the question of "how",including principles,mechanisms,and approaches.Methods determine the result and effectiveness of nurture by culture.This paper consists four sections.The first section classifies the intrinsic qualities and the function of nurture by culture by understanding and formulating the connotation,quality and functions of nurture by culture,outlining a clear research scope and founding the base of the whole paper.This section discusses basic connotations and objectives of nurture by culture;analyses unique characters of nurture by culture:guided,humanistic,aesthetic,imperceptible,pleasurable;explains functions of nurture by culture:promote reflection,server for delight,strengthen belief,and guide conducts.The second section is the goal of nurture by culture,this section analyses the profound functions of culture in enlightening intelligence,cultivating sentiment,shaping moral character,and strengthening cultural belief.The third section uses the methodology of systemic and logical analysis to construct the forms of nurture by culture.The key point of this section is what is the culture needed to achieve nurture by culture,which embodies the content of culture and the carrier form of culture.The fourth perspective discusses the implementation path of nurture by culture from three dimensions:critical principles,mechanisms,main paths;explains the importance of handling well four relations:domestic and overseas,mainstream and none-mainstream,soft and hard,and classical and popular;discusses that the mechanisms are enculturation,cultivation,and inspiration;analyzes that the main paths are promoting subjective consciousness,expanding media method,and optimizing cultural environments.
