Since the reform and opening up,development of economy and society, the trajectory of individuals towards adulthood has gradually changed. With the increasing of years of education, the rapid development of economy, the change of social concept, and the delay of marriage age,a unique stage of life has been formed between the traditional youth stage and the adult stage,it’s named:emerging adulthood. From the perspective of young people, the study of emerging adulthood integrates life course research, marriage research and employment research to examine the process of adult adulthood in the early stage.By means of questionnaire survey and semi-structured interview data, this paper probes into the self-cognition and life stage characteristics of emerging adults from a sociological perspective under the guidance of the life course research and the theory of emerging adulthood, and correctly interprets their behavior and faces up to the contradictions and difficulties they face.It also helps emerging adults to better recognize themselves. The structure of this paper is as follows:the first part expounds the background and significance of the study on the theory of adult initial manifestation in China, the emergence of emerging adulthood, breaking the traditional life course "three-point timing structure",bringing anxiety and contradiction to young people and their families, affecting the healthy and harmonious development of social order,It is necessary for people to correctly understand and interpret this new course of life. The second part carries on the literature review, combs the adult beginning manifestation and the life course research present situation, defines the related concept. The process of adult initial manifestation from the perspective of young people’s cognition to adulthood is a research paradigm widely concerned by scholars in many fields, such as sociology, psychology, pedagogy and anthropology. The theory of Life course is an important subject of sociological research, which has an important influence on the process of young people going to adulthood. The third part introduces the research idea. The study distributed and recycled questionnaires to young people aged 18-25,collected data, supplemented by semi-structured interviews,to complement and support the information of the survey data. The Chapters IV and V of this paper analyze the data of questionnaire survey and semi-structural interview, and show the self-cognition of adult identity and the view of adult standard in the early stage of China. In the sixth chapter, the author summarizes the findings of the study, and introduces the self-cognition of adults in the initial period and the stage characteristics of adult adulthood in the process of becoming adults. In the seventh chapter of this paper, the research is summarized and reflected, and the prospect of future research is put forward. The study found that in China, the young man between 18-25-year-olds had a more pronounced feature of adult infancy, and 60.1% of young people thought they were between minors and adults and had adult identity uncertainty.Young people regard the "independence" factor, the "responsible relationship" factor and the "compliance with custom" factor as important adult criteria, believing that adulthood signifies the individual’s economic independence, mature thinking, adherence to social norms, and individual sense of responsibility. The initial period of Chinese adults has the characteristics of self-identity exploration period, seam sense period, opportunity and anxiety period, this period of young people do not come from the strong constraints of parents and schools,do not have to bear the responsibility and pressure of adult role, can actively carry out professional, intimate relations,self-worth and other fields of self-exploration and self-attention,It is a contradictory and challenging time for young people to have the opportunity to change the negative impact of their native families but have to face negative perceptions and pressures from marriage, employment, society, etc.
