With the concept of personalized education rooted in the hearts of the people deeply,the development of personalized learning has become an important issue in education all over the world.However,the current online education cannot meet the learning needs of different students.The reasons are as follows: First,the learning platform ignores the core concept of “learner-centered” and cannot provide learning resources accurately according to the individual needs of users.Second,the learning platform cannot teach students according to their own pace,which leads to the unobvious effect of online learning.In recent years,modern educational technology,especially the application of artificial intelligence and big data,has greatly expanded the time and space of learning,and accelerated the integration of the Internet and education.The society has entered the era of ubiquitous learning.Exploring new paths and new methods to enhance personalized education has become a hot topic in the era of "Internet +".Based on this dilemma,this study takes the US Knewton adaptive learning platform as an research object to explore its reference to China.Based on the basic research paradigm of comparative education,this study adopts Edmund King's comparative education theory analysis framework,and uses the literature method,comparative method and case method to study the Knewton adaptive learning platform in the United States.The background,theoretical basis,core components,operational mechanism and other content are explored to provide feasible suggestions for the status quo of personalized education in China.The research is mainly divided into the following six parts:The first part introduces the background of the Knewton adaptive learning platform.Knewton adaptive learning platform is built based on the current background of American education reform.The current education is difficult to meet the limitations of students' individual needs.Based on the technical support of education big data,Knewton develops and builds with its partners.The second part analyzes the theoretical conditions and concrete manifestations of Knewton adaptive learning platform from five aspects: humanistic learning theory,mastery learning theory,generative learning theory,cognitive flexibility theory and information processing theory.The third part introduces the core components of Knewton adaptive learning platform.According to the theory of personalized learning environment and the reality of Knewton,Knewton adaptive learning platform is divided into three major systems:user system,resource system and service system.These three systems complement each other and jointly lay the foundation for the stable operation of the Knewton adaptive learning platform.The fourth part mainly studies the operation mechanism of Knewton adaptive learning platform.Firstly,the operation principle of Knewton adaptive learning platform is introduced: based on continuous adaptive system,it combines Project Response Theory,Probabilistic Graphical Models probability with Hierarchical Agglomerative Clustering.Secondly,the operation mode of Knewton adaptive learning platform is analyzed.That is,the construction of knowledge maps,student knowledge status assessment,personalized content and recommendations,learning outcomes and evaluation feedback.The fifth part discusses the specific learning process of the Knewton platform through the case of Arizona's use of Knewton adaptive learning platform to improve mathematics learning.Take the Knewton Math Readiness project as an example to analyze its background,implementation process,and effectiveness at Arizona State University.The sixth part summarizes the characteristics of Knewton adaptive learning platform.By drawing on the beneficial practices of the platform in terms of theoretical construction,core components and operational mechanism,it can provides experience and inspiration for the establishment and development of personalized adaptive learning platform in China.
