Family and school are two main places where children are largely influenced in their growth.Parents and teachers play important roles in the growth and development of children.There is no doubt that parents and teachers will communicate with each other,so they must cooperate.Correspondingly,parent involvement has received more attention.In China,lower level of parent involvement and lower parents’ enthusiasm are the main problems of parent involvement.However,parents in New Zealand can take the initiative to participate in children’s education in positive ways.Whether there is a certain pattern of parent involvement and the reason behind this make people curious.Firstly,this paper uses the two dimensions of the parent involvement model proposed by Professor Hornby of New Zealand to analyze the six parental involvement,and concludes levels each model meets the needs and contributions of parents;then through the analysis of the concepts and forms of parent involvement in primary and secondary schools in New Zealand,supporting by data and activities from dimensions of parents’ needs and parents’ contributions,combining with the two-way interaction between parents and teachers,this passage concludes that the parent involvement in primary and secondary schools in New Zealand fully satisfies the various needs of parents and makes full use of the contributions that parents can make,so it belongs to partnership model.This is a beneficial,positive and the most appropriate model for relationships between teachers and parents.Secondly,this passage analyzes the positive effects of parent involvement from the perspective of students,parents and teachers.It illustrates the significant effects of parent involvement in primary and secondary schools in New Zealand combining with three primary and secondary schools and the "Read Together" programme for specific case studies.Finally,from the five aspects of policy factors,social and institutional factors,school factors,family factors and parent-teacher factors,this passage analyzes why the primary and secondary schools in New Zealand can form such a partnership model of parent involvement.New Zealand has greatly mobilized the enthusiasm of parents to involve in children’s education.Parents are willing to participate,and teachers are also willing to involve parents.Parent involvement has become a part of school development.Parents and teachers attach importance to adopt different ways to communicate with each other about children’s learning and growth.Both parties are interested in expanding their cooperation in all aspects to support the overall healthy development of children. |
