Mind map has been widely used in education as a knowledge visualization tool based on brain theory. It has positive influence in teaching and learning. When I practiced at Invicta Primary School in London,I found some teachers used mind maps in teaching and children were highly motivated.I was inspired by that,so I try to apply mind map in Chinese vocabulary teaching for children in order to raise learning efficiency.Three questions are discussed in this paper based on the analysis of teaching background, curriculum plan, teaching practice and assessment.(1)How to make an instructional design of Chinese vocabulary teaching for children based on mind map?(2)How to know children's vocabulary learning condition by analyzing their mind maps?(3)How does mind map work in vocabulary teaching for Children? This research is conducted by using case study method, questionnaire survey and interviewing method. The main conclusions of this paper are as follows: Firstly, mind map is a useful tool in Chinese vocabulary teaching.Teachers can use mind map to work out teaching plans, and then refer to the mind map teaching process based on Concise Learning Method.Besides, teachers can use iMindmap to demonstrate vocabulary mind maps.Secondly, teachers can know more about children's vocabulary learning condition and strategies they use in study.Thirdly, good results have been achieved by using mind maps in vocabulary teaching.Mind maps can not only assist children in learning vocabulary,it can also stimulate their interest in learning Chinese.Children pay more attention to learning strategies while using mind maps.Mind map is suitable for all school children in different ages, but it needs to be adjusted in accordance with specific conditions.Overall, this paper has innovation value in the area of Chinese vocabulary teaching for children, and it provides reference for the application of mind maps in Chinese teaching.
