After 40 years of reform and opening up,China has achieved great achievements in the construction of the socialist modernization, and the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics has made a great leap forward. At the same time, the contradiction between the rapid development of China's economy and the relatively slow cultural construction is still quite prominent. The great affluence of people's material life is in stark contrast to the relative lack of spiritual life. With the in-depth development of reform and opening up and the increasingly widespread influence of Internet technology, people's social and ideological thoughts have become increasingly active and diverse, and international cultural exchanges have become increasingly frequent and in-depth.At present, new media has become an important channel for college students to obtain information and learn knowledge, and also an important means of exchanging ideas and entertaining themselves. In the era of new media, due to the immaturity in psychology and physiology, college students' values have not been fully established, and the ability to appreciate culture and make choice has not yet been formed.Under the influence of multiculturalism, college students lack cultural self-confidence to some extent.Cultivating college students' cultural self-confidence is not only related to the healthy development of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics, but also to the realization of the "two hundred years" struggle goal and the dream of realizing great national rejuvenation. Thus it is very necessary both theoretically and practically to make research and probe into the effective ways of enhancing college students' cultural self-confidence in the new media environment, and it is also a major issue that China's higher education has to face now.New media influences the cultivation of college students' cultural self-confidence in a comprehensive, complex and profound way.It not only brings opportunities for the cultivation of college students' cultural self-confidence,but also brings a series of challenges.Based on the background, the present study mainly employs literature research method, comparative analysis method, questionnaire survey method and case analysis method to conduct a preliminary analysis and research on this topic. The main body of the thesis is composed of four chapters. The first chapter is an introduction of the present study which outlines the research background and significance, the research situation at home and abroad, the author's research ideas and methods,as well as the research important, difficult points and innovations. The second chapter mainly elaborates on the relevant theories of new media and college students' cultural self-confidence.New media emerged along with the emergence and development of the Internet. It is a new developing form of media compared to traditional media. Its characteristics appear at the magnanimity and fragmentation, immediacy and interactivity, openness and sharing, decentralization and circle, digitization and multimedia, personality and diversity, mobility and convergence.Socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era,the cultural self-confidence of college students is exactly the confidence in the socialist culture with Chinese characteristics. In the new media environment, there is importance and necessity to integrate new media and the cultivation of college students' cultural self-confidence.We should not only follow the rules of new media communication, but also attach importance to the moral process of “knowing” developed by college students' thoughts and behaviors,so as to increase their confidence in socialist culture with Chinese characteristics. The third chapter mainly expounds the profound influence of the new media environment on the cultivation of college students' cultural self-confidence.Based on the empirical investigation of the cultivation of college students' cultural self-confidence in the new media environment, the thesis employs SPSS,Excel software to process and analyze the data firstly, and presents the influence of the new media environment on college students' cultural cognition, cultural identity, cultural will and cultural practice from the dual perspective of macro analysis and micro analysis.According to the survey,it is found that the advantages of new media have not been fully exerted, the supervision and governance of new media needs to be strengthened, and the lack of synergy in the cultivation of college students' cultural self-confidence is the reason why the new media environment has a negative impact on the cultivation of college students' cultural self-confidence.The fourth chapter mainly presents the effective ways of cultivating college students' cultural self-confidence in the new media environment.College students are the major users of the new media, and are also a new force in the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.Based on it,the thesis gives the effective ways of cultivating college students' cultural self-confidence in the new media environment from the following five aspects: to explain the rich connotations of Chinese culture and increase the supply of high-quality cultural content in the new media;to use the new media to tell the Chinese story and lay a good foundation for the cultivation of college students' cultural self-confidence;to adapt to the development trend of media integration and master the information communication initiative of excellent culture;to promote the new media to operate in an orderly and standardized manner and create a clear and healthy cyberspace;to play the role of school, family and society together, and cultivate college students' cultural self-confidence.
