A Research On "Residing Both Sides" Marriage And Its Female Kinship In Chinese Rural Areas

The issue of marriage and family in rural areas of China has always been one of the hot topics concerned by academia.In recent years,with the development of the economy and the transformation of the family structure,especially under the influence of the family planning policy,the marriage in rural areas have been constantly changing,and many new marriage phenomena have emerged.Adults burned in 1980 s and 1990 s,most of whom are only children,have now stepped into the marriageable age.The most important thing to their parents is their marriage and their marriage will also lead to various problems,such as pension,inheritance of property,the responsibility of taking care of grandchildren and the dispute over their grandchildren’s surname.Therefore,in a situation where one-child are increasingly common in rural and urban areas,it is necessary to study how young couples in rural areas choose the way of marriage and how to coordinate the problems arising in the process of marriage,which is also a problem that cannot be ignored to promote rural development and maintain rural stability.This paper mainly describes the “Residing Both Sides Marriage” of the only child farmer family in Y village,Pingwang town,Suzhou city.This kind of marriage form is a new kind of marriage form produced by the combination of conscious collective choice and individual rational choice.It not only complies with the development of the society,but also caters to the concept of inheritance and filial piety,but also solves realistic problems such as inadequate parental care and scarce family inheritance that are caused by the scarcity of resources for the offspring in rural society.At the same time,the status of women,the gender relationship,the relationship of parents and children and in-law relationship within the family in this marriage have changed,showing a more equal and harmonious state within the family.This research gathers materials by semi-structured interviews and participatory observation through the method of field investigation.Firstly,it describes the back ground of the " Residing Both Sides Marriage " in Y village,the history of the change of local marriage form,and analyses the characteristics of the " Residing Both Sides Marriage ";secondly,it analyses the reasons of the " Residing Both SidesMarriage " in local area and the role of female relatives under this marriage form;Thirdly,it describes the change of female kinship in this marriage form,and explores the substantive problems reflected by this kind of expression.Finally,this paper summarizes and thinks about the prospects and the potential problems of “Residing Both Sides Marriage”.
