Study On A-Level Examination And Its Application In Britain

College entrance examination,serves as a bridge that connect to secondary education and higher education,which plays an important role in college enrollment.A-Level examination is one of the most important examinations for college admission in Britain.After nearly 70 year's reform,A-Level is the product of the development of British education to a certain stage.By analyzing the development of A-Level,we find that A-Level is the “golden standard” in the college enrollment of British.What's more,it has great reference value for the new reform of college entrance examination in China.Originated form classical university,British college entrance examination system was facing the public through a constant struggle which against the monopoly of upper class.Facing with the contradiction between continuous expansion of secondary education and limited opportunities for higher education,A-Level came into being under the combined effect of promulgation bills and personal efforts.As a curriculum-oriented test,the nearly 70-year's reform in A-Level has been repeated on how to balance the expansion of learning content and the depth of content in student subjects.As time goes by,the selection of A-Level subjects has been expanding,the depth of learning has been continuously strengthened and the evaluation methods of examinations have been gradually become scientifically.By comparing and analyzing the application of A-Level in different types of university,we find that A-Level isn't the only standard but an important reference on the enrollment university in British.It cooperates with other elements to select suitable students for different types of universities in Britain.Different university has different requirement for A-Level.The high-selection universities have stricter requirements than the non-selection universities in A-Level,its requirements on specific subject level and setting are relatively complete,while the non-selection universities only need to reach the general level.Taking University of Oxford as an example,it makes a thorough requirement for A-Level in the number of subjects,subject grades and modules in enrollment.It is found that the setting A-Level inUniversity of Oxford has the advantage of thorough subject setting,emphasizing the subjects relation in primary and secondary,focusing on the internal connection in subjects.It has an important value for the universities in our country to set up selective examination subject requirements.
