The research object of this paper is the Chinese textbook "Revival Mandarin Textbook"(1-4)of Nanyang Diaspora Primary School in the 1950.Originally published as A Chinese national primary school textbook by the Commercial Press,the book was introduced into the Nanyang Regional diaspora Primary School in 1949 after being finalized by the Singapore Ministry of Education of the United State of Malaysia.Six chapters comprise this dissertation:The first chapter of the introduction summarizes the research object,research significance and research status,summarizes the research literature on the history of Chinese teaching in Singapore and Malaya,and the dissemination and use of the teaching materials of the Republic of China in Southeast Asia.Then the theories,methods adopted as well as the sources of the references shall be showed in this chapter.The second chapter is a brief overview of the policy of overseas Chinese in the period of the Republic of China and the use of textbooks in Nanyang Overseas School.Then through combing the development of the self-compiled textbooks of the commercial press in the period of the Republic of China and introducing the life of the editors of the textbook,this paper analyzes the reasons for the introduction of the textbook of Revival Mandarin into Singapore.Finally,the paper makes a brief analysis of the style and main contents of this set of teaching materials,and probes into the appearance of Chinese teaching materials used in Singapore during theRepublic of China such as child-centred,reflect local characteristics,language is more standardized and simple.The third chapter is the study of lexical teaching,this chapter carries on the statistics and the analysis to the vocabulary of the Renaissance National language textbook(1-4),generalizes the teaching material lexical arrangement is the noun,the verb teaching,mainly conforms to the student's cognition law,learns the everyday life language.;Vocabulary teaching methods,to map interpretation,situational teaching,lexical aggregation,and so on,a variety of teaching methods alternating,to reduce the burden of learning;ocabulary teaching insists on children as the center,material selection in line with children's life experience,while adding Nanyang Terroir vocabulary and Singapore National Vocabulary,to help expatriates better adapt to the life of the host country.The fourth chapter is the study of grammar teaching,this chapter divides the lexical categories appearing in the teaching materials,and analyzes their arrangement characteristics;An analysis of the teaching characteristics of four lexical categories of nouns,verbs,pronouns and quantifiers;From the point of view of the specific content and arrangement,this paper analyzes the characteristics of the teaching of lexical grammar and pragmatic function;then on the basis of special marks of sentences,the emphasis of sentence constructions is put on the“shi”sentence(“?”??),existential sentence,comparative sentence,“ba”sentence(“?”??)and“bei”sentence(“?”??);the next step is about the imperative question and imperative sentences in the light of mood,to which careful analysis including sources,number,edition and teaching features of the sentences will be given;It is concluded that there are many simple and commonly used sentence patterns in teaching materials,and the number of sentence patterns which are not commonly used is small,which is beneficial to the teaching characteristics of primary learners.The fifth chapter affirms the rationality of the adaptation of the textbook,and then analyzes the characteristics of the textbook from the angle of the content and style of the teaching material,which provides reference significance for the preparation of Chinese teaching materials in the primary stage,making a basicevaluation of of the book in Localization is not complete,excessive volume of matter,overdependence on teachers in class and lack of practice.
