A Study Of Late Qing Sports From The Perspective Of "Dian Shizhai Pictorial"

Under the influence of Westernization and Reformation,Western military gymnastics was introduced into China,and then modern sports such as track and field and ball games were introduced in succession.They combined with traditional Chinese sports to form the embryonic form of modern Chinese sports."Dianshi Zhai Pictorial" depicts all aspects of the late Qing society in the form of both pictures and texts,including sports reports.This paper relies on these images to analyze the development of sports in the late Qing Dynasty,providing a basis for the study of late sports.This paper uses the methods of documentation,content analysis,case analysis and logical analysis and takes "Dianshi Zhai Pictorial" as the research object.Through sorting out the pictorial system,it summarizes the pictorial images related to sports,and divides these sports-related reports into traditional sports,military sports,western sports and women's sports and so on.It is further subdivided into 14 sub-categories.Then,it analyses the sports in the late Qing Dynasty reported by "Dianshi Zhai Pictorial",which covers the stage characteristics,dissemination contents and creators of sports in the late Qing Dynasty.Then it analyses the reporting characteristics of "Dianshi Zhai Pictorial" and its role in promoting sports in the late Qing Dynasty.Finally,the function of sports in the late Qing Dynasty in "Dianshi Zhai Pictorial" is analyzed.Although "Dianshi Zhai Pictorial" has always been loved by scholars and has made remarkable achievements in the study of current affairs,politics,science and technology,medicine,cultural history,painting and calligraphy,the related sports research is still relatively weak and most of them are confined to western sports or Shanghai sports.There is no discussion on sports as a whole.Therefore,this paper has certain value for the study of sports in the late Qing Dynasty.It can not only fill in a small part of the vacancies for the study of "Dianshi Zhai Pictorial",but also provide relevant basis for the study of sports in the late Qing Dynasty.
