The relationship between consumption and identity has been studied for a long time, and the interaction between consumption and identity in contemporary society has been constantly updated, which has become a frontier topic of sociology. In addition, the research object of this paper is the most concerned rural-urban immigrant group in the local society. The research on the identity construction of the consumption of the independent rural-urban migrants is of more profound research significance. In particular, the most critical housing consumption in the consumption life of the independent rural-urban migrants is more closely related to its identity construction with great sociological significance. This study attempts to analyze the housing consumption choice of rural-urban migrants from the perspective of institutional embedding, and extract the action logic and formation process of autonomous rural-urban migrants as rational actors,as well as the impact of rational choice results. This paper takes the rural-urban migration from the administrative villages of various towns and villages in Z county as the object of investigation, takes their housing consumption as the research content, and analyzes the role of the identity construction of independent rural-urban migration consumption as the research purpose.Specifically, this paper explains the identity construction of consumption from two aspects.First, explore the influencing factors of consumption choices, specifically to study the housing consumption choices made by independent rural-urban migrants under the external institutions and internalization instituitons.Compared with the strict application conditions and disorderly property management of public rental housing, commercial housing not only benefits from the external institutions, but also conforms to the legitimacy of the internalization insitutions. The benefits brought by the commercial housing"mortgage",real estate right and property management help the independent rural-urban migrants form the preference to buy commercial housing. Moreover, the expectation of self-owned housing required by the symbolic system in daily life and the housing fund provided by the human relationship network jointly contribute to the house-purchase strategy of the self-owned rural-urban migrants.Second,it explains the social consequences of the choice of consumption, specifically the role of the choice of housing consumption made by the independent rural-urban migrants in the county to the construction of identity. After the purchase of the county housing, the status of the self-governing rural-urban migrants is affected by two dimensions. The duality of identity is that they can learn new rules in the county and have to rely on the support of the village. The duality of the edge of identity is because they always have a gap with the residents of the county and a distance from their former villagers. The identity brought by consumption is the product of social expectation and the objective of every actor's rational action, which makes them disregard the real life situation and produce no small social consequences. Therefore, individuals have to act around the issue of identity in the consumption choice, which also means that after the choice of action is made, identity will face new social reality and the problem of identity will change accordingly.
