In the last decades,China has emerged as one of the biggest economies in the world. As China’s economy grows stronger along with its increasing international influence,Mandarin or Chinese language, serving as the official language of the nation, has developed as one of the languages to be mastered. As a result, many countries have started promoting the learning of Mandarin and Indonesia is without exception.Indonesia is a country with the highest number of ethnic Chinese population in South-East Asia and the only ASEAN(Association of South-East Asian Nations)representative that takes part in "G20".Coupled with cooperation plan between China and Indonesia, established in 2012,in terms of tourism, culture, and education, the demand towards workforce skilled in Mandarin has significantly increased within the nation.Consequently,as many schools have started incorporating Mandarin into their curriculum,Overseas Education College feels the need of conducting research on the language learning as well as the satisfaction in learning the language, especially in the high school level,in such a way that the two aspects can be understood in a more holistic and comprehensive way.Using American Customer Satisfaction Index, abbreviated as ASCI,as reference, this study performed a survey towards 503 students from Tarakanita High School Tangerang. The survey was conducted through questionnaire, class observation, teacher interview, and other precedent research related to satisfaction in Mandarin learning.Aiming to answer the current students satisfaction on learning the language, this study took a look at the factors affecting the satisfaction, such as perceived quality, perceived value, and motivation. The inter-relationship between those factors, their effects on students class performance or grades, and ways to improve the satisfaction were analyzed.Statistic program SPSS 22.00 was utilized in this study to scrutinize the questionnaire survey results before reliability analysis, correlation test, and linear regression test were used to examine the survey. The latter was carried out following analysis of several parameters that include normal distribution, test for linearity, heteroscedasticty test, and lastly multicollinearity test.A linear regression equation and multiple regression test were used to perform the linear regression test.Having analyzed the research result,it is found that students’ motivation, perceived quality, and perceived value have effects towards the students satisfaction in learning Chinese. In addition, there exists interaction between motivation, perceived quality, and perceived value. However, through multiple linear regression test analysis, the main factors affecting the students satisfaction are identified to be perceived quality and perceived value, while motivation serves as an indirect factor that affects the students satisfaction.Final analysis towards multiple linear regression shows that students satisfaction towards learning the language does not affect their class performance or grades.Lastly, relevant suggestions on how to improve students satisfaction towards learning Mandarin have been proposed.
