Picture books are kid-friendly literary works which tell stories mainly by combining pictures and words together.For the first study phase learners(1st and 2nd primary graders),the use of interesting picture books with diverse subjects as an aided-teaching tool in Chinese classes accords with the rules of students' physical and mental development.Besides,the reading,picture writing and linguistic abilities will be improved.In some degree,these books help kids develop perfect personality and achieve scientific and artistic attainment.Moreover,they'll be beneficial for teachers to accomplish national Chinese teaching tasks and to promote the quality of Chinese teaching.Taking Primary School D in Changchun City as an example and applying ways of interview and observation,this paper has surveyed in six aspects including teachers' cognition of picture books and picture book teaching,the frequency of picture book teaching,teachers' selection of picture books,the implementation of picture book teaching,the effect of picture book teaching and teachers' thoughts after picture book teaching.Problems in this school have been found such as teachers' low cognition and ability of picture book teaching,school's weak support for picture book teaching and the disorder in classes of picture book teaching.It's held in this paper that the improvement of picture book primary Chinese education in the first segment should be implemented from the following perspectives.Teachers' cognition of picture book teaching should be deepened.Teachers' ability of picture book teaching should be strengthened.The construction of platforms for picture book teaching by school should be encouraged.Good reading habits of students should be cooperatively cultivated by family and school.Also,specific application strategies in Chinese education practice in the first study phase of picture books have also been proposed in terms of character recognition,reading,picture writing and spoken communication.I hope that Chinese teachers of the first segment will improve the primary Chinese education after following my advice and that abilities of students such as picture writing,character recognition,reading and spoken communication will be improved.
